Eliptical Polarization _ NAB 2012

Palestra: Antena de polarização elíptica

Elliptical Polarization: Influences on the Performance of Digital TV Coverage
The implementation of digital TV transmission adds the possibility of mobile and portable reception, where the type of polarization of the transmitting antenna is one of the variables in the design of the transmission system. The horizontal polarization is most often used by TV stations, but maybe it is not suitable for mobile and portable receivers since they operate their antennas in different positions, ie horizontal, vertical or even oblique, causing a reduction in the level signal reception. This problem is known and expected by the engineers in broadcasting, but it is still an unsolved issue which motivates studies and research professionals and manufacturers, with the focus to optimize the station’s DTV. The purpose of this paper is to present a comparison of results obtained with different configurations of transmit antennas with horizontal polarization, vertical and elliptical in different proportions for the vertical and horizontal components. This research was conducted in São Paulo from August 2009 until August 2011, based on UHF channel 60 and data collected through theoretical simulations and practical tests for TV signal reception in the field.
